BOWLING.

CHRISTMAS TOURNAMENT. FINAIi MATCH COMMENCED. INTERRUPTED BY RAIN. The final matcli in the Auckland Bowling Centre's Christmas tournament started this morning in misty •weather on the Auckland, Bowling Club's green, the. going being made rather heavy by Occasional showers which interrupted play for a few minutes at intervals. The two competing teams were F. J. Baildon, W. Mincham, W. Liversidge, H. Whittle (Grey Lynn), and J. A. Bird, W. J. Bates, J. S. Kilgour, H. E. Clarke (Carlton). They had already met in the sixth round, when Carlton'won, and yesterday afternoon Grey Lynn'avon, so they were on equal terms this morning. The game opened with careful drawing, each side scoring a point,' but on the third head Clarke had the misfortune to trail the jack into four Grey Lynn bowls, when he was only one down. He drove and burned the fourth head when one down, and the re-play went the other way, Carlton lying three counters, of -which Whittle could save only one. Grey Lynn 5, Carlton J3.

Mincham drew: tlie shot on the fifth head, 'and Liversidaf added two more, which were not disturbed, but Carlton responded with an equal score on the sixth, by Clarke pushing out Whittle's shot bowl.

The seventh head gave Grey Lynn four shots, two from Mincham. and two from Whittle, Kjlgour and Claf ke both failing to' alter it by runs and drives. Grey Lynn 12, Carlton C.

The eighth produced a great struggle. Baildon lay two, and the spectators were treated to the sight of a lead driving, but Bird missed. Mincham added a third, and no change was made till Clarke opened it up and lay two. Whittle turned two down to two up, with a beautiful run through a narrow opening, but Clarke again recovered it with a drive, and lay one shot.

Carlton secured one mpre point on the ninth head, through Kilgour resting Baildon's shot bowl. Whittle beat it with a draw, but Clarke pushed him out, and Whittle missed with bis last. Another point went to Carlton on the tenth bead, after Liversidge bad driven out two opposing woods to make both of Mincham's bowls count. Clarke found an opening and drew the shot.

Baildon lay shot on the eleventh, and' all failed to alter it until Clarke put his bowl on the jack. Grey Lynn 12, Carlton 11.

A heavy mist now made the green very heavy, and both hands were badly blocked. • At last Liversidge managed to negotiate all- the short wood, and reached the jack, but none could alter it, either by drawing or driving.

The thirteenth saw Grey Lynn lying three shots, and Clarke ran through with his first, but saved two with a beautiful resting shot. .Carlton scored two on the fourteenth head, with rain steadily increasing, so an adjournment was made for lunch, with the score at 14 for Grey Lynn and 13 for Carlton. The green was very soon one sheet of water, with nothing showing but the jack and the bowls that had been left there. Play for the day was abandoned, and the competitors will resume .at 10 o'clock to-morrow finish the game from where they left ofL REMUERA TOURNEY. -
