Tenakoe and Goshawk Go Under. Royal Tea Runs His Last

Race. *

Tenakoe, who won the final race yesterday, was ' ridden by Gray in the Goodwood Handicap, which opened the programme to-day. He was made a good favourite carrying £1070, the next best supported being Goshawk, £874, and Love Song £790. Flying Prince was one of the outsiders with £202 on his chance. When the field jumped off Tenakoe and Flying Price were quickest to show out, with Envoy, Love Song, Grand Tea, Vertigern, Eaglet and Ti Tree following. Llanore then ran through fast, and across the top was in front with Tenakoe following, and then came Flying Prince, Love Song, Vertigern, Grand Tea and Envoy. There was nothing between Tenakoe and Llanore turning for home., where Sin-Russell was now up third with Vertigern, Flying Prince, Love Song and Grand Tea prominent. In the run home Love Song came through and won nicely by a length from ,Flying Prince with Vertigern a head away third. Llanore was fourth followed by Tenakoe. Grand Tea, Envoy, Goshawk and Eaglet. . ■_, ' When crossing "the top Royal Tea broke, a tfetlock joint and had to be destroyed. Bracket Successful. In a field of- eleven backers went for the bracket—Baroscope and Princess Bede—in the Sylvia Handicap, and trie wind up saw the combination favourite with £1636. Persham was second in demand carrying £1413, while Royal Artist was supported to the extent ot £703. Baroscope, Cape Gold and Fedora were quickest away, but Fedora soon ran to the front and led across the top from Princess Bede, Baroscope, Persham and Roval Artist. At the home turn Princess* Bede-fell and Fedora led hko the straight from Persham, Baroscope and Cape Gold. Barascope did best an the run home, and won by three-quarters of a length from Persham with Fcdoia a neck away. Speedmint was fourth follold by y Ca P Royal Artis, Speedfast, Limeen, Exaggeration and Bede -fell,. her rideis Humphries, received slight juries to his ribs, and though his was o«gd as the rider of Great Star in the ollowing race, the Grandstand Handicap, the hoi*c was withdrawn.

Necks Between Them. Four withdrawals left a field of 14 to line up for the Grandstand Handicap and Hunting Cry was made a solid SSfiyiiw-H. never go in the picture; and was always nean the tail of the field once the, horses had properly settled down. The winner was the second favourite, Cormax (£lBlO , while Silvermine was third fancy with £767. Lucy Rose, who finished second, carried £508. Passing the stand the first -time Lucy Rose was showing in front from Silvermine, Eager Rose, Cornmx, Hunting Cry, Mosque and Jaloux, while My Own Avas pulled up and did not continue on in the race. Along the back Lucy Ro,,e was piloting the fiekLjust clear of Silvermine, Mosqvie, Eager Rose, Gay Cockade, Sir Mond, Corinax, Hunting Cry, Count Palatine and Jaloux. Mosque was in front crossing the top from Gay Cockade, but the latter then dashed to the front and was well clear turning into tine straight from Silvermine, Mosque, Lucy Rose, Eager Rose and Corinax. In the straight Gay Cockade looked like seeing it out, but both Corinax and Lucy Rose threw .out strong challenges, and in a great finish Corinax got the decision by a neck from Lucy Rose, Avith. Gay Cockade a neck away. Silvermine was fourth, followed by Spearmiss, Count Palatine, Eager Rose, Mosque, Sir Mond and Jaloux. Surprise in Hurdles.

There was a surprise in the Auckland Hurdles when' the little-fancied Master Lu, who carried only £149 out of a good pool, came, along at the end and downed the favourite Luminary, who was backed to the extent of £1-404. The second favourite was Glaremore (£789), while Star Comet carried £780. Wako King and Kairuri went out at the first fence, where 'both fell. ThO others jumped well but soon strung out and when the stand was reached Mashoor was leading Luminary, Dark Prince, Day Lass, St. Anes, Star Comet, Master Lu, and Glaremore in that order. At the first fence along the back St. Ames made, a bad jump and was nearly down. Luminary had then taken charge from Dark Prince, Mashoor, Day Lass, Star Comet, Master Lu, St. Ames, with Claremore a long way back from the leader. Day Lass came down at the second fence from home and Star Comet fell on the flat after getting over the same hurdle. Luminary led into the straight from Master Lu, who had moved up smartly, Dark Prince and Mashoor. In the run to the judge Luminary tired and Master Lu headed him to go on and win by five lengths. Mashoor was only a neck behind Luminary, with Dark Prince fourth, followed by .Claremore and bt. Ames.
