Lieutenant-Commander E. G. Rhodes, of Christchurch, is staying at the Grand Hotel. „ Mr. D. Henry returned by. the Marama on "Wednesday from a nine months' trip abroad. . Dr.- C. F.- Morkane, of Christchurch, is visiting Auckland,-accompanied by his son, and is staying at the Grand Hotel. Dr. M. J. Backenstoe, of Pennsylvania, arrived by the Marama on Wednesday on a holiday visit. .. With Mrs. Backenstoe he is making a holiday trip around the world. The Rev. H. W. Monaghan, vicar of Timaru, has beeii appointed Archdeacon of Timaru, in succession to Archdeacon Purclias, who has resigned owing. to illhealth. Sir James Parr, formerly High Commissioner for New Zealand iu°Lon don, expects to.return to-the Dominion next March. Mr. J. ,S. Watt, of- Auckland, New Zealand .Rhodes Scholar for 1931, is leaving by the late express on Wednesday for Wellington, where he will join the Remuera for England. It is his intention to enter Oxford early in the New Year, as .he has been granted the status of a senior student at the university. Mr. A. B. Williamson, of Vancouver, arrived by the Marama from Sydney on Wednesday. He is a brother of Mr. J. W. Williamson, Mayor of Takapuna, and went to British Columbia 18 years ago. He hopes to spend five months in the Dominion, before returning to Canada. °
