NEW YEAR RACING.
THIRD DAY OF A.R.C. MEETING.
G.N. DERBY AT ELLERSLIE.
GOOD PROGRAMME FOR TO-MORROW.
NINE TURF CARNIVALS SCHEDULED
The Auckland Racing Club's summer carnival will enter upon its third stage to-morrow, and will reach finality on Friday. Chief interest on New Year's Day centres in the fiftyseventh Great Northern Derby, for which most of the best three-year-olds in the Dominion will parade. Although Nightmarch and Hunting Cry are not in the big double, tip-top fields of 14 and 1 2 respectively are listed for the A.R.C. Handicap and the Newmarket. With the splendid acceptances received, all that is required is a continuation of the glorious holiday weather to ensure a really excellent day's sport. '
Besides the Ellerslie meeting, there is racing at Hawke's Bay (Hastings), Taranaki (Stratford), Wairarapa (Tauherenikau), Marton, Greymouth and Otago (Waikouaiti and Wyndham). The only trotting gathering will be at Addington (Canterbury Park).
