FIRST ANNUAL SALES
The first of the annual sales to be conducted by the Auckland Stud Company was held this morning. Mr. C. E. Robertson, representing Messrs.- Wright, Stephenson and Co., was the auctioneer. The attendance was very moderate, and competition for the yearlings offered was not very keen. The highest price realised was for the Whirlwind—Cione filly, which was knocked down for 320gns to Mr. R. T. Reid, of Hamilton. Following is a list of the horses offered: Bay filly, one year, by Peach Brandy— Danae, Mr. P. E. Pope, DOgns. Chestnut filly, one year, by Whirlwind— Cione, Mr. K. T. Reid, 320gns. Chestnut filly, one year, by Whirlwind— Lady Penury, passed in. Bay colt, one year, ay Scherzo—Legality, Mr. H. R. Mackenzie, 173gns. Bay filly, one year, by Scherzo—Grey Eagle, pajsed in Chestnut filly, one yenr, by Surveyor— Tluirence, Mr. P. E. Popo," 32Jgns. The following lots \Tere pasßed in :— Bay filly, Whirlaloug, by AVhii-hvind— Lucena, on account of Mr. W. H. Patterson, passed in at 150gns. Brown gelding, one year, by Canusa — Marriage Bell, on account of Mr. J. C. Gleeson, passed in at 40gna. Bay colt, by Romeo—Lady Kerman, on account oi Mr. W. Taylor, passed in at 50gns. Bay filly, two years, by Valkyrian—Drugallen, passed in at 2jgu''.
