It ris officially stated that the Governor, Sir Philip Game, and Mr. Lang discussed the matter of the appointment of Sir Philip Stre'et, Chiefs Justice of New South Wales, as Lieutenant-Governor, and that when the Governor had said that action' was unnecessary until he visited another State, the subject dropped. » The King's commission to Sir Philip was signed on October 1 last and it clothed him with all powers and privileges of a Lieutenant-Governor's office, which is exercisable at the King's command, not at the pleasure of the Premier or Ministers. Finally, it was stated that no trouble whatever had occurred, and that Sir Philip Street would assume his duties automatically whenever the necessity arose.
