PROTESTANTISM IN ITALY.

(Received 10.30 a.m.) ROME, December 25. Addressing the Sacred College of Cardinals Pope Pius XI. deplored the ■world-wide unemployment, which has arisen from the economic' depression. His Holiness emphasised the - need for better social international organisation, making fraternal co-operation possible between different' classes of peoples.instead of causing unbridled rivalry and competition, which sooner or later will lead to disaster.
The Pope protested against the growth of Protestant propaganda in Italy, Which he declared was growing very intense in defiance of the terms of the Lateran Treaty. *
Referririg v to the peace mdvement the Pope declared it was impossible for peace to last long as there was uncompromising nationalism and distinct competition instead of genuine love of country and united co-operation. ... '
