WHEAT FROM CANADA.
U.S. EMBARGO SUGGESTED. WASHINGTON, December 24. The chairman of the Federal Farm Board, Mr. Legge, has suggested to the Agricultural Committee of the Senate that a temporary embargo on wheat would be the most effective harrier, if the world wheat prices continue to fall below domestic quotations to a point permitting imports of Canadian wheat, in spite of thf tariff of 42 cents. Mr. Legge said the "spread" between Chicago and Winnipeg .was running from 26 to 28 cents a bushel, and inasmuch as millers would always pay a premium for Manitoba wheat, any further decline in the, market would probably .result in wheat being imported from Canada. . They would i have a burden of some surplus without importing any wheat.
