LETTER FROM SIR THOMAS LIPTON.

Some months ago the Auckland Yacht and Motor Boat Association decided to send tho best wishes of Auckland yachtsmen to Sir' Thomas Lipton for success of Shamrock V. in the America Cup contest. The letter evidently reached Sir Thomas just after his arrival at Newport, U.S.A., three weeks before tho first race. Ho replied to the secretary's letter as follows: —

"S.Y. Erin, Newport, August 23, 1930.

"Dear Mr. Collings,—Your very kind letter of July 8 has just reached me, and I am greatly obliged to you for conveying the good wishes of the Auckland yachtsmen. We are very hopeful that this time we may be.successful with Shamrock V., although, of course, we do not underrate the well-known abilities of the American designers, builder's and yachtsmen.

"With renewed thanks and best wishes to you all.

'Tours faithfully, "THOMAS J. LIPTON."
