HAUNTS OF ANCIENT PEACE IN DEVONSHIRE.—Three extremely old farmhouses, all glimpsed here, constitute Stiniel, one of the most charming hamlets in Devonshire. It is only a few miles from Chagford. Visitors need donkeys to climb Clovelly streets. So steep are the stone-paved thoroughfares in this north Devonshire coast village that in scaling them on foot one often slips back a step. The little saddle beasts are seen here through the arch of the old inn on the quay (right). An accompanying article describes picturesque towns and villages of Devonshire and the delights of holiday-making there.
