UNITED STATES CONSULATE.
(By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") WELLINGTON, this day. Among the passengers on the newly fitted up Monowai, which left on her maiden voyage for the United States under the Union Company's flag, were Mr. William P. Cochran, Vice-Consul for the United States, and Mrs. Coehran. Mr. Cochran has been ordered back to Waehington owing to ill-health. On arrival in New Zealand eighteen monihs ago, he was first stationed at Auckland; he came to Wellington at the beginning of this year. Mr. Bernard Gotlieb, is aeting-Consul-General, and Mr. Cochran'e departure means that two appointments in the Anierican Consular service to New Zealand are pending —a successor to Mr. W. F. Lowrie, previously Consul-General, •who has been.succeeded by Mr. Gotlieb, and another to Mr, Cochran.
