SERVICE CAR DRIVER ARRESTED. REMANDED FOR SENTENCE. Arrested in tlie street this morning by Detective Bowman, William Stephen jbpson (27), a service car driver, later appeared at the Police Court on a charge of obtaining from M. J. Matheson, at Hamilton, on November 23, the sum of 14/6 by falsely representing that he could obtain him a p&sition as service driver. Accused pleaded guilty. Detective Bowman said Matheson mid Jopson had been staying at the same boardinghouse at Hamilton. Jopscn said he could obtain a, position for Matheson as a service car driver at £1 per day, and induced him to part with 14/fi, which he said was the amount of his license. Matheson did so and never heard anything more or' saw Jopson again until this morning, when he recognised him 5n the street. The police, said accused had never been in any trouble before. "You had no right to take your friend down like that," said Mr. Hunt, who remanded Jopson until to-morrow morning for sentence. "If you pay 14/6 and expenses 10/ tp complainant by then it might make a difference," the magistrate advised Jopson.
