GIRL SENT TO BORSTAL.
ARRESTED IN MOUNT EDEN HOUSE
Said to be "quite incorrigible," Mary leobel McLaren; aged 19, was consigned to the: Borstal Institute by Mr. F. K. Hui)t,. 5,M.,. at the Police Court to-day, on a charge deeming .her to be an idle and disorderly person.
Accused pleaded not guilty. Constable Du Temple said he received a complaint last evening from the occupier of, a house in Mount Eden. "On going to the house I found it full of undesirables," added the constable. "Accused was there and much drinking "had been going on. One dozen bottles of beer- llad been consumed within a few hours. She admitted she had been drinking. .The same house has been under observation for some <time past. This girl has been in nearly every, home and institution in the Dominion." . I , Major Annie Gordon. &aicl' she had known the accused since she was a little girl' arid a ward of the State." Everything possible had been done to assist her, 'Without result. She had frequently absconded from'-homes and afterwards, when placed in'situations, ehe left them. She was wholly unsatisfactory and in her own interest, should be scht to the Borstal ' ■ ' , , . , „ The' magistrate agreed and fixed the term at two years.
