THE OBSTACLE RACE.
Have you ever indulged in this amusing game indoors, I wonder? Suppose you try it next time you have a party. It is played as follows:— Several children, who do not know -"-.he game, are sent out of the room, and a "leader" is chosen from those who remain within. He then proceeds to place four or five "obstacles" in a line up the • middle of the room, about half a yard apart. The articles in question must not be too big—a small footstool, a plant in a pot, several books piled on top of one another, and so on. One player from without is then called into the room, and told that he is * expected to walk up and down the line, with his eyes carefully bandaged, and that he must not touch any obstacle in so doing. He is allowed to have three attempts before being blindfolded, in order to give him a better chance of judging distance, etc. Then he is carefully blindfolded.
As soon as this is accomplished, the • leader quietly removes all the obstacles, and the "race" begins. It is very amusing to watch the "blindman" walking cautiously along, lifting his feet, and making all sorts of comical antics in his endeavour to avoid the obstacles which he believes are there.
' When the length of the room has been traversed, the .bandage is removed and the player's look of amazement at the way,he has heen duped causes much merriment. Player number two is then called in, and so the game proceeds.
