Many contributed solutions for the picture puzzle, a great number also sent in games whicjh can be-played, in : a. leisure hour, and dozens concentrated for a time-,with pencil and paper making up. limericks. This competition proved to be most popular of all those conducted.. -. <■ "\ The.general standard of the limericks was quite high. Many were sorted out as being very good, and from these prize winners had to be •elected. It was eventually decided that the four half-crown prizes should go to Ailsa Ryan, Anece Rassie, Iris Wells and Edna Spragg, whose verses were easily the best. Although not quite so heavily contributed to as was the limerick competition, the picture puzzle drew a large number of entries. Budgetitert used their powers of observation to the best'advantage, fitting the paragraph together, piece by piece, as words were suggested by the tiny pictures.: Norm and Laurence Finan, who live at Corpmandel, contributed the best entries, each having sorted out about fourteen of the principal points of the story, linking them together to make a paragraph very much like the original. The entries of brother and sister differed very little, andrso it was decided to bracket them for first place. Other good paragraphs were sent in by Phyllis Meikle, Kitty Voltz and Mollie Horan. i* o *?** The games competition drew heavy l/i A . entries, and it is of interest to note that' V s jTT most were , team games or* those which . call for tests of skill.
