NEWS FROM TENT AND LODGE,

1 The Elm Rdbekah, Lodge, No. 33, 10.0. F., had a large gathering at their laat meeting, held in the Paragon Theatre, Papakura, the occasion being #fUB installation of - officers, f or the ensuing term. The ceremony was performed ' in.a most creditable manner by Bro. H. M. Barnball, D.D.G.M. for the Frankkn district, who was aseisted by a capable euite of officers. The Star of Newmarket Lodge, %-A.0.D.; held their usual fortnightly meeting on the Municipal lodgeroom on Wednesday, last, the am., Bro. Page, presiding oyer a large attendance of members and visitors. Quite a lot of routine'business came before tne brethren,, and arrangements were finalised for the Druids' bowling tournament, for which Newmarket Lodge; has entered five teams. An invitation; was received for two teams to visit the Gordon Tent, 1.0. R., Onehunga, for a friendly game oi . ■ bowls, the invitation being accepted, witn 'pleasure. At the conclusion of the business an enjoyable harmony session was held. For this Bro. Hampton, acted as chairman, and was wished good luck by the brethren, as he is leaving shortly for Huntly> and may be absent for a considerable ..period. - Among those ' contributing to the programme* were Bros. Lowry, Smart, Potter, Mackay, Collins, Wade, Wilson, Leafer and Broberg. This lodge ie marked by a 'great spirit of happy, fraternity, and each meeting is full of enjoyment. * *' • * The Auckland Transport Glub paid a visit to the Auckland Working Mens Club on Thursday evening, another most enjoyable time' resulting. Games of billiards, snooker, bowls and cards were played, the visitors winning the two former and the working men the latter. The transporters were well catered for both in the matter of enjpyment and refreshment, and a return visit is eagerly anticipated. The Transport Club is in a flourishing condition s and •with the opening of the summer season, have restarted the cricket and tennis . sections. In every branch of sporting life the transporters are able to hold their own and always manage to obtain the greatest amount of enjoyment from their activities. The sick and, benevolent ; -side of the society is - much appreciated and compares very favourably with all kindred societies. ;

A meeting of more, than ordinary interest of the Protestant Alliance Friendly Society was held in: the Orange Hall on Tuesday evening, when a visit was revived from the Deputy Grand Master, Bro. A* Devlin, of Dunedin; who brought greetings" from the Southern lodges. He stated that all the branches of the order in the South'were in a most flourishing condition, and the membership on the increase. x The attendance for the evening was much larger than usual, and in-cluded-visitors from the St. Albans Lodgej all spending'; a most happy and profitable time. • # !» ■ * ■ The Epsom Lodge No. 88 1.0.0. F. held the first meeting of the new term on Tuesday evening in the Royal Oak| Hall, Bro. Sinclair, N.G., presiding over a large attendance. Punctuality and Dispatch must be the keyword of the new N.G., as the lodge opened promptly to time and the usual routine business was dispatched in record time. This allowed the best part of the evening to be devoted to the social side and the members showed their keen appreciation by entering into the games with greaty zest. A word of praise is due to the retiring KG., Bro. Drake, for the manner in which he carried out, his, duties and helped the lodge forward. Under his leadership the ceremonial and ritualistic side of the lodge work greatly improved and is now" second to none in the district. Ample time was also made tor the sporting side, with the Epsom always proves a hard lodge to beat. During his term in the chair he paid fraternal visits -to most of the Seter lodges in the district. The newly Sailed Vice-Grand Bro. Ivan Whale f the youngest member to hold this, important office. Joining at the age of sixteen he proved himself exceptionally S and has filled the subordinate ehSrs with great credit. The Bud of Promise Juvenile Tent, 1.0. R., met at Onehunga on Tuesday evening, the C.R., Sister N. German, presiding over a good attendance. Two new members were initiated and received a warm welcome. At the close of the routine business, which was-promptly dealt with, a flower guessing competition was held, the results being: Sister May Hayward and N. German tied for first place for the girls, and Bros. H. Dodds and -J. Scott tied for the boys. In the draw the first-named won in each case. Other gamee were also played and the young people spent a jolly evening. ♦*. * • Nominations for officers ror the ensuing year were taken at laef week's meeting of Court Takapuna, A.0.F., the following being received:—-C.R., Bro. B. C. Chrktey; S.C.R., Bros. S. Clark and G. Cadnese; S.W., Bros. G. Cadnese and J. Blackwell; J.W.; Bros. J. Blackwell and W. Nicholson; 5.8., Bro. W. Nicholson; JB., Bros. A. Martin and R. Barter; trustees, Bros. W. Lisk, W. H. Henderson and G. H. E. Collins; secretary, Bro. R. E. Graham; treasurer, Bro. H. Chubb; hall committee, Bros. H. Strude, C. Clark and J. Henderson; bowls committee, Bros. H. Strude, W. H. Henderson, W. Lisk, W. Laurence, B. C. Chrietey and T. W. Christey. The election and installation will take place on the last meeting night in November. ♦ * * * The Loyal Remuera Lodge, M.U1.0.0.F., spent a very enjoyable time at their last meeting. The essential' business was quickly dispatched, after which the brothers of the lodge took charge of the social programme, with the resut that a jolly time ensued. Dancing occupied the main part of the evening, a novelty dance, "The Poisonous Stick Dance," creating much excitement and amusement, being finally won by Sister Bricknell and Bro. Prendergrast. Monte Carlo and spot waltzes also created great interest. The brethren entertained the gathering to supper, and all seemed lorry when "Auld Lang Syne" brought the evening to a close. ♦ * * *.:'■'.'■ There was a good attendance of the members of the Court Star of the South, No. 6692, A.0.F., at the fortnightly meeting in Kingsford Hall, Otahuhu. Bro. Jerrat, C.R., presided, aseisted by P.CR.'s Boniface sen., Herbert, King, Carter, McDowell and McDonnell, Bro. McDowell, P.C.L., welcomed and introduced officers and members of tne Court Pride of Ellerslie. They received full Foresters' greetings, the C.R. of the visiting Court suitably responding. The lodge social committee decided to meet at Bro. McDowell's residence to diecuss arrangements for the lodge'e children's Christ? mae tree. After business, the 500 card tournament between Court Pride of Ellerslie and the lodge, under the Eastern Suburbs Foresters , Sports Association, was played. The Otahuhu team, which had enjoyed an unbeaten record in the tournament, , was beaten by 13 to 6.
