OBITUARY.

MAORI WAR VETERAN. DEATH OF MIL W. H. REED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association,) ■THAMES, this day. The death has occurred of William Hanson Heed., at the age of 82. lie deceased was a son of Captain Reed, who married into one of the missionary families, at Russell prior to the British assuming control of the Dominion. He held the New Zealand medal for distinguished service against Te ivooti, and wal orderly to Colonel Herrick, and o-alloper for General Whitmore. He «aw much fighting in the Poverty Bay district, and, after the war, served as artillery instructor. He was well known at Devonport until he retired. Later he farmed at Totara, in the Thames district. The deceased is survived by a widow and several children. One son is Captain Reed, of the Union Steamship Company.

MR. C. F. E. TENNENT. A well-known Aucklander, Mr. Charles Fleetwood Emmerson Tennent, died on. October 25 at his home in Vincent Avenue, Kingsland. He was born m Liverpool in. ISC7 and came to New Zealand with fog parents in the ship Crusader over 55 years ago. They landed at Lyttelton, and afterwards went to Napier, where his father, the late Dr. Tennent. a veteran of the Crimean War, : Indian Mutiny and China War, followed J his profession. Later, for some time Mr. Tennent practised his profession as a chemist in Wellealey Street with his father. After his father's dea*th he moved to Cambridge, and subsequently went to Waitekauri, Waihi and Earangahake, becoming widely known on the goldfields. Returning to Auckland, he was appointed in 1917 the first manager of the all-night dispensary, and held that position up till the time of hi 3 death. He is survived by his wife And two soii3, Mr. C. E. Tennent. Treasury officer in the Auckland district, and Mr. F. R. Tennent, of the Marine Department. A sister, Mrs. F. L. Tait, resides in Paraell.
