OUR WATER SUPPLY.
The thanks of the community are due to Mr. E. H. Potter for his candid criticism of tile City Council's attitude in respect to the proposed water board. Auckland has been most unfortunate in the past twenty years Hi having councillors who have altogether failed to grasp how necessary it is that we should have a permanent water supply. Some time ago I read an article, I think in an Englich magazine, commenting on the fact that every city in England and Scotland, with two exceptions, had now permanent water supplies. Tlfe writer apparently considered it a matter for regret that the two cities could not have a permanent supply due to tho fact that there was no permanent source available. Is it not a fact that the world's leading engineers are of the.opinion that no city can hope to havean adequate supply of water derived from catchment areas? I agree with Mr. Potter; the water question should be taken out of the hands of the Auckland City Council and vested in a water board. CIViS.
