ALL-BRITISH MOTOR SHOW.

MABVELLOXJS STREAMLINING.

THE GOLDEN ARROW.

The first impression of the Golden Arrow received by those who- have visited the All-British Motor Olympia is the wonderful streamlining of this remarkable engineering masterpiece. The body of the car is like an enormous projectile, with the three bulges at the front enclosing the tops of the three banks at cylinders. At the tail end, the body sweeps into a vertical fin, which gave the car directional stability and greatly assisted the driver in keeping a straight course when travelling at the terrific maximum speed attained in creating the worlds record. , While the official record was set down at 231.36246 miles per hour, it is estimated that at one stage Sir Henry Segrave reached the phenomenal speed 0f°246 miles an hour. In addition to reducing wind resistance to a minimum, another extremely important function of the streamlining was to assist the "ground-holding" or traction of the car, and the sweeps and curves of the body are so designed as to force the wheels down to the ground with a pressure of hundreds of pounds on both front and rear axles. The underneath part of the car wae streamlined with just as great care as the top. Before the Golden Arrow was actually constructed many painstaking experiments in a special high velocity wind tunnel were conducted with scale models of the great car. The Golden Arrow is the supreme British achievement in the automotive field, and has attracted widespread interest in Auckland, just as it has done throughout the other parts of the Empire where it has been displayed. Great interest is being taken also in the magnificent range of vehicles of British manufacture at Olympia. The show will continue daily until next Saturday.
