AUSTRALIAN VISITORS. GAMES AT CAKLTOX GREEN. The members of the Australian bowling team which toured Great Britain, America and Canada was welcomed and entertained by the Dominion Council executive at Auckland yesterday on their arrival by tho Aorangi from Vancouver. A drive round the waterfront and morning tea at the Mount Eden tea kiosk, was followed by bowling matches in the afternoon at the Carl ton Club's green. At Carlton, the Auckland Centre president, Mr. J. M. Thompson, and Mr. W. J. 'Truscott, the club president, welcomed the visitors, and Mr. A. Alley, of Victoria, replied. Members of the New Zealand bowling team which visited the Empire Games were also prospnt, and were included in the welcome. EPSOM CLUB

A special committee meeting was held on .Thursday Inst In the pavilion of the Epsom Bowling Club to discuss business for the coming season. The green supervisor (Mr. Burton) save a first-class report re tlie new greens. The club have secured 23 new members for the coming season and still have vacancies for 25 more. The services of two first-class coaches In Messrs. James Hnyes and Charles Lamb have also been secured. Both arc well-known players and new players ojjn be assured of thn beat of attention. The Epsom committee reminds bowlers of the Labour Day tournament, which will be held as usual. The club will have 22 rinks ready for the opening day on the- 13th of this ■month. The committee would like all bowlers lo be along sharp at 2 p.m. on the opening day.

MATAMATA CLUB'S OPENING.

The official opening ceremony of the Minamata Bowling Club took place on Saturday. Despite the fact that the weather was most unpropitious hi the morning, when heavy rain fell, there was a big attendance of bowlers from Tauranga, Morrinsville, l'utaruru, Hamilton, Te Aroh.i, and other local clubs. In welcoming visiting bowlers, Mr. \V. Egan, president, also congratulated members of the Matamata club on securing so many honours last season, when the Howdeu and Clotiiier Shields were won, together with the Gold-lU-ldH Stars, the Fraser Stars for pairs, and a silver cup In the Tauranga tournament. PAEROA CLUB OPENS SEASON. The members of the Paeroa Bowling Club officially opened their season on Saturday. The green was in fairly good order, and visitors were present from Waihi, Te Aroha, Hikutaia, Auckland, Thames, and Waiklno. Mr. Leu Gibb, president, welcomed the visitors, and Mrs. Gibb threw the lirst jack and declared the green open. A maltch between the president's and vice-president's tennis resulted in a win for the president's team by 127 points to 110. Drizzling rain interfered with the opening of the Waipu bowling and croquet greens on Saturday. The annual meeting of the Okoroire Bowling Club was held at Okoroire on September 30. There was a good attendance of new and old members. Mr. R. Carruth, president of the club for the past two vears, retired from that office, and Mr. M. K. Goodwin presided over the meeting. The balance-sheet, which showed a credit balance of £0 7/G, was considered Highly satisfactory for a small club. AN OTAGO TROUBLE. DUNEDIN, this day. At a meeting of the directors of the Dunedin Bowling Club to-night, it was unanimously resolved to strongly protest against any action in the direction of their grounds being acquired for hospital purposes, as mentioned in a letter from the Minister of Health (Mr. A. J. Stallworthy) to the Hon. W. Downie Stewart. A copy of the resolution is being forwarded to the Minister, and also to local members of Parliament, Messrs. Taverner, Stewart, Munro and Ansell.
