Mr. L. J. Stevens left by the Aorangi last evening on a. business trip to .Sydney. Sir F. Truby King, who has been on a visit abroad, returned to New Zealand by the Mara ma from Sydney to-day. Mr. A. E. Ward, of Tiiuaru, who has been touring the Commonwealth, returned by the Marama this morning. Mr. D. F. Stewart, late of the Sydney firm of D. F. Lamb and Company, arrived by the Marama this morning on a short business visit. Sir Frederic Lang, the Hon. C. J. Carrington, the Hon. A. S. Malcolm, and the Hon. J. Trevethiek, M.L.C.'s, left for Wellington last evening. Mr. Henry Winklemann, of Swanson, who has been on the sick list for several weeks and is still in the Auckland Hospital, is now convalescent. Mr. Beaumont Smith, ma'naging director of Williamson's Films (New Zealand), Limited, arrived by the Marama this morning. He leaves for Wellington to-night. Mr. P. W. Maddock, manager in New Zealand for the Mctro-Goklwyn-Mayer Corporation, returned from a, business trip to Australia by the Marama this morning. Sir Edward Johanscn, well known in Devonport, who has recently made his home in Wellington, returned from a holiday trip to Australia by the Marama this morning. Mr. A*- E. Oatley, well known in sporting circles in various parts of the world, arrived from Sydney by the Marama this morning, lie intends to settle in New Zealand. Mr. J. Commons, of the goods department, Auckland railways, has been aj>pointed clerk of the inwards department. Mr. J. Hay has been transferred from Wanganui to the outwards parcels oflicc at Auckland. Captain Hargrave, late of the Indian political service, was a passenger to Auckland by the Marama this morning. He is on a'holiday visit to escape the English winter, and intends to do some deep-sea fishing during his three months' stay. Mr. H. C. Cotton, who this week was appointed secretary of the To Aroha Jockey and Trotting Clubs, was also the successful applicant for the secretaryship of the Thames Valley Agricultural and Pastoral Association, and also of the Tc Aroha Terminating Building Society.
