CHURCH NEWS.

AVONDALE; METHODIST,

A special musical service was hold in the Brown Street Church, Avondale, last Sunday night, when all the available seate were occupied; Under the baton of Mr. A. Barnes the choir rendered the following: Sanctus (Monk), ; " 0 Lord My God" (Maulaiih "And The Glory" (Maude!), "Sun Of My Soul" (Turner), "At Even, Ere the Sun was Set" (Turner). Miss R. Thomas (contralto) eaug "The Radiant Morn," Mies V. Linfoot (soprano) "0 Divine Redeemer" (Gounod), and Mr. R. A. Forster (tenor) "In Native Worth," from Handel's Creation. : . The Rev. C. B. Jordan, M.A., 8.D., preached from the text, "Neither have I the knowledge of the Holy One" (the Agnostic'position), as contrasted "with a later utterance, "He is a shield unto them that trust in Him." Mr. Jordan said the key to all the problems of the univerec, of life and existence, of eternity and time, was simply the experience of those who had made a trial of'religion. Were people. foolish enough to ignore past experience in other .matters?. Did a man refuse'-to believe in the law of gravitation and so commit suicide from a church steeple? Did he refuse to believe what a chemist told him about arsenic,- and eat" it in defiance of all chemical experience? All the Apostolic writers gave as the product of their experience a practically unanimous verdict that Christ, as Emancipator from sin, and Giver of Holiness, met all the needs of human nature. Not only so, but their verdict was endorsed by all the Christian \ saints of the past as well as by all people to-day who would comply with the requisite conditions. The one requisite was a turning away from sin and a simple trust in Christ.
