AUCKLAND PETITIONS.

COMMITTEE'S REPORTS. COUNCIL WORKERS' DWELLINGS. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Monday. Several, Auckland petitions were reported on in the House to-day. No recommendation was made in the ease of Henry Alexander Nelson, of Mount Eden, who asked for employment in the Government service, or a compassionate allowance in respect of his military service. As the matter was one of policy, a similar finding was returned on the petition of Trevor Noel Holmden, solicitor, Auckland, who asked for the payment of the' difference in pay and gratuity between British and New Zealand rates during the war with Germany. The petition of Alfred Stokes, of Newmarket, for a compassionate allowance on account of injury received during his employment in the railway service was referred to the Government for favourable consideration. No recommendation was made in the petition of S. P. Evans, of Auckland. for compensation respecting patents used by the Railway Department. Ada M. Ferguson, of Te Kuiti, asked for a compassionate allowance in respect of her late husband's services as a surfaceman in the Railway Department. The Railways Committee reported that it was of the opinion that the Department had acted in accordance with law and custom, but in consideration of the doubts as to the cause of death it considered the petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. '""No recommendation to make" was the finding returned on the petition of R. A. Cowley and another, that the passing of legislation to enable the Auckland City Council to spend £3045 on or towards the repair and improvement of workers' dwellings erected by the council be deferred.
