HANOVER'S BERTHA (2.1¼.)

NEW WORLD'S RECORD MADE. The great flily, Hanover's Bertha, on August 20, at Springfield, Illinois, was responsible for a wonderful performance for a three-year-old trotter when the daughter of Peter Volo established a new trotting record for one of her age. In the "Horse Review" Futurity, of dollars, Hanover's Bertha won two straight heats with the greatest of ease. Despite her outstanding superiority as displayed during her two-year-old career, five owners harnessed up three-year-olds to oppose her in the Futurity. In the first heat Hanover's Bertha went the first quarter in 325, half in 1.4%, six furlongs in 1.35, and mile in 2.3. This in itself was a great performance, but it was in tho second heat that the filly showed what a wonder trotter she is. Going away in the lead shs stepped the first quarter in 30is, half mile in I.ls, six furlongs in 1.31f, and the mile in 2.1%, thus making a new world's record for a three-year-old.
