Tales of the Spanish Main in the days of the bold buccaneers were vividly brought to mind on Saturday S.Z the Auckland Athenian Clubi when the president, Mr. Wilfrid Wright, and Mrs. Wright were host and hostee* for a '•Pirate Night." The stage was realistically set as"a pirates' cave, with treasure chests, rum barrels, skulls and bones, while'the pirate galleon could be seen in the offing. The novelties wer-2 both numerous and original, the whole being in keeping "with the character of the evening. The entertainment opened with a scene of a party of pirates, with typical songs and choruses, after which a splendid programme of items was rendered by the"Clarion Quartet (Misses Beryl Smith and Lillian Woods, and Messrs Lambert Harvey and Duncan Black), Madame Cora Melvin. Miss Noni Wright, Messrs. Norman Day, Lambert Harvey and Peter Dawson, while Jane Rico and Joan McAlpine (pupils of Mile. Valeska) gave a dance duo.
