PETROL SUPPLIES.

KEEPING OUTPUT BELOW DEMAND. MOVEMENT IN AMERICA. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) CHEISTCHURCH, this day. An increase of one penny a gallon on the retail price of petrol is forecasted by the "Times" newspaper. Commenting editorially, the paper refers to efforts which are being made ill America to hold the output below the demand, and says, "The price outlook for users of petrol in New Zealand is therefore not promising. If the cost to consumers here is nearly six times what it is on the Pacific Coast when the output is largely in excess of current demands, it would appear that the retail price in the Dominion is likely to be increased when production in the' United States is to be held below the demand. There is certainly room for investigation, and if the rumoured advance in the price of petrol proves to be correct the whole question should be the subject of close inquiry by the Government."
