PERSISTENT CRITICS.
Federal Cabinet Hastening Budget Scheme. HIGHER TAXES INEVITABLE. SYDNEY, September 26. As the outcome of persistent Press criticism and pressure by State Ministers, the Federal Labour Cabinet is now hastening its scheme for balancing the Budget. The Cabinet will meet at Canberra on Wednesday, when the details will probably be announced. More taxation is inevitable, but its nature is not yet disclosed. The question of cutting the salaries of Federal servants has not been settled, owing to the hostility of a section of the Ministry to this course.
