The trial of the Italian antiFascist, de Rosa, charged with attempted assassination . of Prince Umbert of Italy, has developed into a trial of Fascism. Distinguished Italians have given evidence. The country under Mussolini's rule, Signor Nitti said, had lost its liberty, leading to Italy's economic decadcncy as well as, the decline in the intellectual level. He praised the character of the accused and referred to the young Italians of different parties who had been executed under the Fascist regime. Ex-Deputy Turati said tbkt de Rosa sought to draw the attention of public opinion abroad to Italy's misfortunes and to awaken the spirit of resistance in Italy. Signor Ferrari, an exiled lawyer, declared that the King of Italy had become Chancellor of the Dictator. A sensation was caused in the Court when Signor Rosseti, the Italian wartime hero, said the present position of Italy was like that of Belgium during the German occupation. He himself left Italy because lie was haunted by the desire to commit a patriotic crime. The hearing was adjourned.
