MODEL AEROPLANE CORNER.

"RESURGAM" MONOPLANE. CONSTRUCTIONAL DETAILS. (By PROPELLER.) '* I hftvc been asked by a number of model aeroplane builders to give the description of a better class of model. Something more like the real thing, so I will give you some details of a highgrade machine which holds many records in England. It is the "Rcsurgam" built by Sir. W. Plater. It is a double surface; wing monoplane, with q, covered in fuselage and twin gears to drive the propeller. ~ This week I will give you all the main dimensions, and in a later article will deal with the harder parts, such as the gears, the propeller and landing gear. The wing section is the R.A.F. 34, the shape of which will be given in next week's article. The fuselage is made up of four main longerons, kept apart by formers of 3-lOin. three-ply. The top line of the machine Is practically straight. The following are the sizes of the formers: — No. I—(Nose1 —(Nose piece) 1 3-Sin. wiue, 2 1-Sin. deep No. 2—2Jin. from :iosc, 1 5-Sin. wide, oin. deep. No. 3—7Jin. from nose, 2 7-1 Gin. wide, -IJin. deep. No. 4—l3Jin. from nose, 2 5-Siu. wide, Din. deep. No. s—l94in. from nose, 2 5-81n. wide, 4!}ln. deep. No. it—2(s.}in. from nose, 2iin. wide, 3:2 in. deep. No. 7—33Jin. from lyjse, 2in. wide, 2 3-Sin. deep. No. S—oOiii. from nose, Jin. wide, 2 l-Bin. deep. The longerons arc made of 3-10 in. square sprucc, and tho formers arc nicked in the corners to allow the longerons to lit in neatly. The formers are cut out hollow with a fretsaw, the I portion left being about 3-10 in. wide. This is, of course, to allow the rubber I skeins plenty of room inside.*. Make, a full size plane and elevation of this and steam the bottom longeron-: to shape. This will prevent tho whole machine twisting when put together. It is a good plan to saw two boards, say !) x 9 inches, and nail tlie'm upright on a plank of wood exactly :i5 inches apart. .Bore holes in the upright boards exactly at the cornel:, of the nose and tail formers. ~ This forms a sort of cradle which will facilitate the erection of,the bodywork. Glue and bind the formers in place and the whole fuselage should set dead true. Cover the structure with thin Jap. silk and dope. The other dimensions arc: — Wing: Itibs K.A.I' 1 . Ml .section; span, -12 inches; chord. 7 in. :Ims; spurs, two let into the ribs 23 inches from front are 1-Sin. x l-Bln. square ; loading edge, l-Sin. x 1-1 Gin.: trailing edge, ■ JMflfn. x l-Ktin. Cover both sides with silk and dope. The wing tips are 3 inches higher than the centre. This gives the angle. Tail: 01 ■:C[iinre inches. •Rudder: 14 square inches. •Vheels: 3Jin. diameter. Propeller: 13in. diameter, 19in. pitch. Gear wheels: 5 Sin. diameter. Landing gear and tall shapes ■ire made from 18-gauge fs.W.G. spring steel wire. If you have any trouble in getting plans and materials for the models you build send a stamped addressed envelope to "PropeUer," c/o Peter Pan. ANSWERS TO INQUIRIES. R. RICE inquiring for plaiu of model glider.—This will fce given in a later ■ article. <>I(.'K CRUICKSIJANK- wants to know how , to go about, making a fuselage model about 12 inches long.—l have a good plan of this machine and will publish It as soon as possible. A. F. MARTIN sends in :i good article on propellers.—l will be glad to use this, alsci the one on the twin screw machine when space permits. An inquiry for details of uu aeroplane kite has been received. This is a section of the model aeroplane activities, and will no doubt be interestiug to others as well! Full plans are being prepared."
