The score at close oi play was: Wellington C.C., 8 points: Canterbury C.C., 3 points. For Wellington, G. P. Anderson, W. Mackay. D. Purehas, G. Wigham and W. J. Fairfcmxn secured win 3; J. C. McEae drew with H. J. Quarrell, W. H. Hughes draw with S. Khouri, W. R. Jones drew with B. Shillito, F. Grady drew with G. Parkin 3, J. L. Hardy drew with E. Raymond, and Miss Phillis drew with L. Drummond. The nine unfinished games will be referred to the Otago Adjudication Board. Miss Philli3 is to be congratulated on making such a good showing in her first telegraph match. At tne quarterly meeting of the 2Tew Zealand Chess Association, held at Wellington last Friday, the application of the Rotorua Chess Club for the next "congress" (on condition it receives the customary assistance from other centres) was granted. Each of the four major centres is espectcd to guarantee £3 by a shilling levy on members, and other centres £1. Entries for the New Zealand championship meeting much reach Wellington by December 1, so that they can 'je submitted to the Elimination Board which was set up two years ago. Each entrv should be accompanied by the entrant's playing record. The Tramways Chess Club entertained the Newton Club at the Gaunt Street depot on September 17. The handicap is at an interesting stage, with several players fairly even. Last week D.
