PAINTED WOODWORK. There are three good methods for cleaning:— (1) Make light suds of warm water and mild soap. Wet a cloth in the soapy water and wring nearly dry. Rub the paint, and if this does not remove the dirt, use a fine friction powder. Rinse with clear water and wipe dry. • (2) Moisten a cloth with kerosene and rub the paint with it until clean. Wipe dry with another cloth. The room will have to be aired afterwards, if this method is used. (3) Use one tablcspoonful of kerosene to one quart of warm water. Wash the woodwork with a cloth rung out of this solution. Wipe with a dry cloth.
TENNIS SWEATERS.
' White woollen knitted garments can ! be beautifully cleaned with ilour. Uj o 1 ilonr acts much more ctliciently if it 'j warmed. A quantity should be placed into a moderately hot oven and watched very elosclv. Stir occasionally, as 011 11° account must it be allowed to get at al' brown. Spread some sheets of paper 011 a tabic and 011 these put the sweater. Now get a number of scraps of clean white cloth of some soft material to act as rubbers. These are dipped in the Hoar from time to time and the sweater is thoroughly rubbed in every part, discard any scraps of cloth as soon as they get soiled. The flour will remove all ordinary dirt marks. When the sweater is clean it should be well beaten with a small stick to remove every trace of tl' e white powder. Finally, hang out of doors, if possible, for some hours. Bright sunshine is good for a sweater that has been cleaned in this way, as it has a bleaching action. Spots that remain are likely to be due to grease, and these should be treated with one or other of the cleaners that can be bought. Grass stains yield almost at once if they are rubbed with a clean rag that has been 1 soaked in methylated spirits.
