SHOOTING DRAMA.
WOMEN QUARREL IN PARIS. A woman of French birth, stated to be the widow or a titled Englishman, was arrested on a charge of attempting to murder Madame Gastaud, wife of Dr. Gnstaud. a Pans physician. The woman called at Dr. Gastaud's flat and, it is alleged, that when Mme. Gastaud appeared she fired Sve shots at her from a revolver which nhe carried in her bag. Mme. Gastaud was wounded in the right brea-t and arm. The wounded woman stated that a quarrel had arisen over a gift of 100.000 francs to her alleged assailant. The shooting drama w likely to cause a great sensation in Parisian society, where the arrested woman has long been a striking figure both on account oi her beaut'." and her great wealth. Her receptions were famous for their brilliance. Dr. Gastaud had made her acquaintance, she said, about three months ago. and had fallen deeply in love with her. She received a visit from Dr. Gastaud on the morning of the shooting, who. she says, told her in the course of a stormy scene that all was now over between t.'iem and handed her a cheque for 100,000 francs she had lent him.
