AT AVONDALE.

PRODICE GOES NICELY. . KING COLOSSUS SPRINTS WELL. Weather conditions were very unfavourable before breakfast at Avondale this morning, heavy rain falling, but it cleared after the interval. . There was not a great deal of fast work, but the few gallops which took place proved interesting in view of the approaching Auckland spring meeting. The course proper, with the trestles about 70ft out from the rails, was available for fast work, but the going was very soft. Type was the first to work, this two-year-old covering half a anile comfortably in 1.2 2-5, while Panther was sent a mile at three-quarter pace. With a light hoy in the saddle Historic was sent away from the mile post, covering his first three furlongs in 44 2-ss, and the first half-mile in 595. He was then joined by Emacipation. Historic, however, did it very impressively alongside his companion and finished up his task in 1.57. The Mitchelson Cup candidate is galloping with more freedom than before the recent Avondale meeting, but at the same time lie appears to have lightened iu condition. - Lineage Avas under a nice pull ,to cover five furlongs in 1.12 1-5. She moved nicely throughout. After breakfast King Colossus was sent from the half-mile post and, after covering the first three furlongs in 41 2-ss, ran home in 545. This was a good gallop considering the soft nature of the going. Prodice and Desert Glow were hopped off at the mile post, and, after running the first three furlongs in 42 3-ss, they completed their task in 1.56. Prodice was about three-quarters of a length in front at the finish. Biddy's Boy showed too much speed for Biddy Comet and beat her by about three lengths at the conclusion of six furlongs in 1.23 3-5. After showing a lot of early speed Awamutu and Flying Prince got to the end of five furlongs in 1.9, the first two furlongs taking 28s. Kingsway led Baroscope and Princess Bede in the early stages of a threefurlong spin, but there was little be* tween them when the post was reached, the time being 38 4-ss. Others to do useful work on the course proper included High Pitch, Foxhound, Thursby and Air King. F. Loomb's team will come across to Ellerslie on Monday.
