REPLIES BY MINISTER. FEELING. VERY "STRONG. (By" Telegrapli.—Own Correspondent.) . lIUNTLY, Thursday. • Following up the protest forwarded on Monday by tlie Renown Miners' Union :jn connection with the letting of a cdal ) contract by the Railway Department to the Taupiri Coal Compa'ny, and; representations which were made to the Minister of Railways by Mrt W. Lee Martin, M.P., in Wellington yesterday, the following telegram was forwarded to-day to Mr. Martin by the'vice-president of the Renown Miners' Union:— "The Minister's replies to 'your ques-. tioils yesterday are considered to be most unsatisfactory. Last Aveek he stated that Mr. Fletcher had found a . mare's nest, as , the tender was for winter months only. Now he states that it will be for all the year round if the spark arrester is a success. We think the Minister .lias been anything but straightforward over this deal, and hemust riot -be allowed to get away with it. . - " • •' "Contracts must be cancelled even if it takes a new Government to do it. We demand that you, Mr. Holland, and the Labour party take immediate -steps to obtain redress. Feeling is very strong here. Labour-must do something or be held equally responsible with the United party. , Please act immediately."
