CHEAP POLLARD.
NOW £7 10/ PER TON
Local mill proprietors and also grain and produce merchants have decided to reduce the wholesale price of pollard by £1 per ton, as from to-day, bringing it to £7 10/ per ton. The reduction in price is due to the competition of Australian pollard. During the winter months mills were charging £9 10/ per but their supplies were not nearly sufficient for requirements .and merchants, being unable to obtain enougli in the South, sent to Australia. At that time Commonwealth prices were fairly high, and they had to charge customers £1 more than the rate fixed by the mills. During the last few months there has been a big drop in the Australian price, with the result that merchants gave substantial ordevs. At this stage the local mills reduced their rates to £8 10/, but the merchants were able to cut under this figure. With the advent of warmer weather the keen demand for pollard has eased, stocks have accumulated, and hence the latest decline in values. It ie a long time since pollard was obtainable so cheaply. A year ago local mill prices were £9 10/, whilst merchants were charging £10 10/ for Southern pollard and £11 for Australian.
