THAIIES, this Say.
With the assistance of the powerful salvage pomp aboard the auxiliary schooner Motu the Northern Company's steamer Taniwha, which sank in the Waihou River yesterday, was refloated at high tide this morning. The extent of the damage to her hull has not yet been ascertained.
At low water yesterday the crew were able to place a collision mat over the rent in the bow planking and tie water was then pumped out, allowing the ship to rise. She is expected to leave Punri wharf this afternoon in company with the Motu for Auckland, where she is due late to-night or early to-morrow morning. On arrival she will go on tJie =lip for inspection and repairs. TMs is the second occasion on whicn the Taniwha has come to grief ia the i Waihou. Eighteen years ago. she was holed by a snag, as in the present instance, and brought back to Auckland for repairs.
