NEW YORK, September 24

Mr. Maxwell Byers, president of the Western Maryland Eailway, and Mr. D. G. Gray, vice-president, fought a duel with revolvers in the Standard Oil Company's building at Baltimore. The police state that the two men apparently locked themselves in the president's office and "shot it out." The cause of the dispute is not known. The crowd of people outside the building was so large that, the traffic was held up. When the police broke into the room they found Mr. Byers dead. He had been wounded in three places, one bullet passing through his heart. A revolver was beside Mr. Gray, who was badly wounded in the back and chest.
