BIRTH CONTROL.

Some medical facts will be of service in deciding this most important question. The Roman Catholic authorities talk as if "continence" were a very simple matter. They speak as celibates, where we arc in agreement with them. But for the married it is a totally different matter. If the five senses are stimulated_ by living in close contact then certain nervous reactions are inevitable, and, if left unsatisfied, will cause serious disease in both men and women. It is these conditions and not any proper contraceptive methods that are to .blame ' in almost every caee. Without separate rooms the idea is hopelessly impossible, and this is looked upon as almost immoral 'by most folk; and is, anyhow, within tho means of few. No one seems to have taken the point of view of tho wife. There is not merely the burden •of too many children, but the continual nervous strain of trying to hinder this when no certain device is known. Some methods adopted by the uninstructed ate most improper and cause more harm than everything else. Contraceptives may be,unnatural, but we are compelled to lead an unnatural life. And, anyhow, they are perfectly harmless and gave no end of ill-health in married people. M.B.
