Members o£ the Papatoetoe Literary nrfritLn* and Dramatic Sowety held a "evenm- in the Methodist Church Safl PapSoe. on Tuesday Prizes for competition essays by the children of the Papatoetoe School were awarded by the society to Miss M. McFarland (standard VI.) "and Miss A. Clarke (standard V.). Mr. A. Murdoch, headmaster of Otahuhuj who was judge, described Miss Clarke'a essay a≤ one of outstanding merit. Among the original contributions to the journal were " A Peet's Corner," by Miss Ivy Smytheman; a short story, "Alice in Relativity Land," by the Rev. S. M. Salt; '• -John Masefield. Poet Laureate," by Miss Helen Donald; " Talkies and the Stage,"by the president. Mr. C. J. Mahon; "A! Day in Ceylon," by Miss G-. Leonard; a paper by the Rev. T. H. C. Roseveare, and ' : A Papatoetoe Diary." Those who assisted in the evening were Misses A. Willerton and L. Hunter, and Messrs W. McFarland and E. H. Burton.
