December 27, 30, 31—Auckland T.C. Evidently there is no limit to the age at which a horee may be racing. Wiruinera King, who ie in the Introductory Trot at Hamilton, is over twenty years of age. Mignonne is a very fit mare at the present time, but site is not engaged at' the Waikato meeting. Yesterday she was only jogging when she went two miles in 4.45 4-5, and she looks like being a good winner thie season. Daytime hae not raced lor a long period.' He is in work again under R. A. McMillan's charge, and is expected to compete at the Waikato fixture. Daytime, without being a class horse, was a useful sort, and the class at Hamilton should suit him. Haroto has been doing light work for some weeks for W. Brain. The Normintson gelding won a race in October of last year going 3.30 2-5, but it ie unlikely he will repeat that performance as he does not 3eem to be as good now as he was then. After her good showings at the # relief meeting at Alexandra Park, where she displayed -a lot of speed each day, the Blue Mountain King mare Windshield will get plenty of backing in the Frankton Handicap'at the Waikato meeting. She worked out a comfortable two miles yesterday, but was not driven to make time. Tom Pepper does not appear to be making any great improvement in his preparation. He trots evenly when going comfortably, but when the speed is asked of him he is likely to leave'his feet. Yesterday morning when he set out to work with Golden Huia he broke up badly. The pony Worthy Nor has been entered for the 4.50 class two miles at the Waikato meeting, but after her -workout yesterday, when she took just over 5m to cover the journey, her chance does not appear to be very blight. She is very small and in addition was a late foal, so that she is not yet three years old, although she ranks as such. A. Newdick will probably race Ms Derby candidate, Great Fame, at the Waikato meeting. The son of Nelson Fame—Ruby Huon has not done much work recently, and he can hardly be good enough to have a winning chance. A run twill be an experience for him and may be of advantage when he comes to tackle the Derby at Christmas, in which race he can hardly be expected to beat others of the same age that have raced well.

The entry of 14 horses for the Mark Memorial, the chief item on the Waikato Club'e programme, is all" right if all line up at the post, but the chances are there will be eome defections, and it does not look as though the race will attract a very strong field. Of the 14 entered five hail from outside Auckland, which shows that locally the trotting sport is badly off for good middle-class horses when it comes to racing at two miles.

If Automatic is brought north for the Waikato meeting the Key de Oro geldin«- is likely to see a short price in the Frankton Handicap. The class is 3.56, one mile and five furlongs, and at Wellington in January he was on the front of'a 3.59 class over the same distance. He finished second, going 3.44 2-5, and as he will be on the front at Hamilton, it will be recognised that if he reproduces his Wellington effort he has a mere 12 seconds the best of the handicap.

The Our Thorpe . mare Joy Bird has so far been a failure when asked to race at two miles, but she is to be given another chance to get the journey, as she figures among those entered for the Mark Memorial at the Waikato meetin". The chestnut daughter of Our Thorpe and Flora Elmo has plenty of speed and twelve months ago ehe won a mile race at the Auckland spring meetinc "ring 2.13 1-5 from a 2.14 mark. In" the early part of a two miles race she has always pulled hard, and this has not assisted her to see out the journey.

When Kewpie's Guy won the Mount Eden Handicap at the relief meeting last month the class was 3.40, and the maximum penalty provided for winning such an event is 48yds. At the Waikato meeting she is entered for a 3.0 mile and a quarter and apparently she will be on the front, although there is no laid down penalties from one distance to another. If Kewpie's-Guy |s placed on the limit it means that she will be meeting many of the horses she defeated on the same terms a*-ain, and they would not appear to have very good prospects. However, there are also others to be considered, and no doubt one or more of these will be able to offer strong opposition.

Hal Chimes, at the Waikato meeting last year, started in three races on end and won the last, .much to the chagrin of most backers. The son of Hal Zolock will not have the chance to repeat the performance next month, as he ie only in the Mark Memorial. He. has gone more- than one good race at two miles but his best efforts have been recorded over eprint journeys. He has gone a mile and a quarter in 2.47 4-5, which ie approximately a 2.14 gait, -and from; a 214 mark he ran second at the relief uieetin"- last month, when the track was very heavy. The eon of Hal Zolock is not very reliable at the post, otherwise he would have Avon good money for his owner.
