STABLE AND TRACK NOTES.

COMING EVENTS. (By WHALEBONE.) September. 25, 27—Geraldine R.C. September 21— Hawked Uay J.C. •October 4—Napier Park K.C. October 4—Kurow J.C. October 4, 6—Auckland K.C. , The Hawera-trained liimter Copey is expected to fulfil his steeplechase engagements at Ellerslienext week. So far the Marble Arch gelding has not been a success and will need to improve to win at Ellerslie. Lady Court, who had been shaping well in her track work prior to the Avondale meeting, did not race up to her owner's expectations at that fixture. The Komeo filly is engaged in the Hobson Handicap on the second day of the Auckland spring meeting. Although the Minister of Internal Affairs had approved of stake money to the extent of £900 for the Matamata Racing Club's meeting, the club has decided to increase the amount to £920. The club has declined an offer to purchase a section of five acres on the front of its property. Love Son", who recorded one win and two placed performances in the five races that he contested last season, will contest the Hawke's Bay Guineas next Saturday. H Gray will ride the son of Hunting Song and Mandoline, in his engagement in the "classic" event, and that will ensure him getting strong support. Eisk is among those engaged in the Hunters' Steeplechase at the Auckland spring meeting. This horse has performed well over steeples during the last few weeks, winning the Hunt Cup, two miles and a quarter at Hawke's Bay, and the Hunt Cup at Marton, while he was third in the Dannevirke Hunt Cup. If brought north he should go well. Prince Val showed ability up to a mile and a quarter last season, and, judging bv the way he went in the Present's Handicap, six furlongs, at the Avondale SeetinVhe should be in excellent condign for his engagements at the Auckland meetS-,n which he is entered for the Flyfeandicap, seven furlongs, on the first day, and the Liverpool Handicap, one mile, oo the second. temg third in j Danne virke, and and should go well. nil A<min showed ability over Wles 6 ea6on won the y Dann evirke He unplaced .the next day, meeting. W. Gall has recommissipned Sleepy Sol again and the Marble Arch gelding is in first-class order to undergo a further preparation for racing. The Peach Brandy filly Grand Spirit has been eased up for a few weeks, as she has not done-as , well as expected since she raced at the Pakuranga meeting.. That good handicap performer Corinax has resumed work again at Ellerslie under J. Williamson's care. He is looking bright and healthy and has evidently been well done during his spell from the race track; judging by his condition. Eager Rose was badly interfered with when Seatown fell in the Plumpton Handicap on the concluding day at Avondale and the occurrence spoilt any chance she had. The heavy going was also against her and she is likely to do much better on a firm track. Eager Rose is engaged at the Auckland spring meeting and will be an improved mare by the time that fixture is held. Arch Eagle, the half-brother to Glenstar, ran a good race when he finished third in the Maiden Plate at Avondale, and it should not be long before he loses his maiden certificate. He is a solidlybuilt gelding, and just the type to make good as a hurdler, in which department it is intended to race him later on in the season. Taumai, who looks all the better for his race at the Avondale meeting, is now at Ellerslie with his two stable mates, Volimond and Honiton. Taumai is engaged in the Manukau Hurdles, to be run on the second day of the Auckland meeting, and should be an improved gelding by the time that meeting eventuates. He was in capital form at f.holast Great Northern meeting, but since then has been beaten each time he has started. Seatown will remain at Ellerslie until the Auckland spring meeting is over. The Archiestown gelding appears none the worse for his fall at Avondale and the racing he had at that fixture has improved him. He is .engaged in the Mitchelson Cup and the King Edward Memorial Handicap at the Auckland meeting, and if track conditions are favourable he can be depended on to put up a good showing. The race Star Stranger had at Avondale has sharpened the Martian gelding up considerably and he should soon be back to his best racing form again. He ran a great race in the Mitchelson Cup twelve months ago, when Historic beat him by a neck with 41b the best of the handicap. Star Stranger (9.12) and Historic (9.13) both figure in the same race next week, and if the going is dry and firm Star Stranger is likely to turn the tables on his opponent. Early in the year his owner-trainer .T. Truskett paid o'ut a large sum of money in purchasing the well-performed New Zealand stayer Glare, and he must be having anything but a happy time with him (says' a Melbourne writer). Glare reappeared on the tracks at Caulfield last week, after an absence of about six days, due to injuring a tendon. In -the meantime there was support for him in doubles for the Melbourne Cup. Whoever has supported him for the two-miler has, according to Truskett, done so without any advice from him. At Sandown Truskett, referring to Glare and the Cup, said "So far I have not invested a single shilling on Glare for the Melbourne Cup and have no financial interest in him whatever in that race. I did couple him in doubles for the Metropolitan, but when he injured himself last Friday I did not run him at Caulfield and took him out of the Metropolitan." AUCKLAND RACING CLUB. Acceptances for the first day of the spring meeting of the Auckland Racing Club, and final payments for the Welcome Stakes and Great Northern Guineas, close with the secretary, Mr. W. S. Spence, at 5 p.m. to-morrow.
