The final matches for the amateur and professional golf championships of Australia were played to-day in perfect weather. H. W. Hattersley (New South Wales) by beating Alex, Russell (Victoria), three up and one, became amateur champion. J. . Robertson (Tasmania) by defeating Rufus Stewart (South Australia), two up arid one, carried off the professional titled •Hattersley, who won the first four holes in this afternoon's play, provided thrills by driving 280 yds and 282 yds at the 25th and 27th holes. He was two up at the turn and also won the next hole." v.'-'/' / ' Russell, by slicing badly fj;om the 35th tee, killed any chance he had. Hattersley sank a 10-footer to .take the hole and win the match. ' In the professional contest, after being three down at the 23rd hole in the afternoon, Robertson, with a 12-foot putt, was one down at the 28th. . Then, playing well, he equalled and went ahead for the first time sincc the 14th hole. Stewart missed a 2-foofc putt at the 35th and Robertson won the championship. - '■ : • ' v -,"
