WAITEMATA COUNTY COUNCIL

The chairman. Mr. W. A. Bishop, presided at the monthly meeting of the Waitemata Comity Council to-day. Henderson Town District. —-At the last meeting the council agreed to some Henderson ratepayers"' proposal of a merger of the Henderson town district into the county. The county clerk reported that under the prigfrng legislation there v s no statutory provMon for a merger of a town district into a county where "the town board did not form part of the district. » Oratsa Ba&ray Station. —Eepreseirfa-fin-n having been madg to the District Traffic Manager of Bailways of the necessity of altering the name of this station, a proposal was made to redesignate it as Waari Hamlet Station, on the-grounds that Waari Hamlet was more served than Oraiaa district, whose natural outlet was stated to be Glen Eden station. The council decided to defer decision for one month, and seek the opinion of the ratepayers in the meantime. Waitemata Power Board.—lt was represented that in view of 'amended valuations and increased population _ox the various 'Constituent districts m the W" air temata Electric Power - Board area a greater representation should be given to the Waitemata County. Statistics were furnished which, in the main, showed that the ratable capital valuation of the Waitemata County was approximately onethird of the total value of the power district, *T>f? that the number of ratepayers was practically one-half, and_ the population one-third of the total in the areaIt was decided that the Power Board be approached in the first instance. Economy.—A report on the question of reducing stair stated that the cost of salaries based upon the total expenditure for the past fin an gal year amounted to 4 per cent. Brigham's Creek Bridge.—The Main Highwayn Board wrote stating that it was prepared to advance the county its share of the cost of - re-erection of, the Brigham's Creek bridge, and regard the amount as a separate advance without committing the council to the full loan of £10,600 that the board agreed to make for the portion of the Auckland-Helens-ville main highway of the Waitakere

Finance.—The county overdraft waa stated to involve a debit of_ £21,018 7/6 when accounts submitted for payment totalling £5845 8/11 were met. The sum of £3295 was overdue by the Main Highways Board for quarterly maintenance to the end of last month. The following amounts were also owing by the Government: Main highways construction, £4560; Public Works Department, £1130. Engineer's Beport.—Mr. A. Murray reported that the_ surfacing of Lincoln Road* Henderson,- for the purpose of preparing for cement penetration, had been finalised. The Henderson to Swanson and Henderson Valley Eoad sections within the Henderson Town Board area, had been scarified and rolled by the county plant. The highway through the Waitakere Biding had had metal chips regularly graded into position, but sections in different parts were becoming badly worn. It was not proposed to expend any farther money on material until definite advice was received from the Main Highways Board that subsidy on this expenditure would be available. Generally speaking the highway to HeknsviHe was in a very unsatisfactory condition, and little could be done without extensive scarifying, rolling and resurfacing. The work was beyond the scope of county finance at the present time, and from examination of the funds available from the Main Highways Board it would appear that work wonld have to cease altogether on this road. Building Permits.—Eleven permits, valued at" £2680, were approved. ~
