SOUTH AUCKLAND CHAMPIONS

OTAHUHU BENEFIT FIXTURE.

The Auckland Rugby League Management Committee met last evening, Mr. George Rhodes presiding over a full attendance of members.

The secretary of the South Auckland League advised that the champion team in that district was prepared to meet the Auckland champions at Carlaw Park, and the date for the fixture was left in the hands of the secretary. The--Sports Motor Cycle Club wrote agreeing to play the special motor cycle match'as arranged for next Saturday as a curtain-raiser.

It was decided that if.Ponsonby win the Roope Rooster on Saturday, City and Devonport, who are equal in second place for championship honours, play off the following Saturday, with a view to deter. mining which club- will play Ponsonby in the champion of champions fixture. Arrangements were finalised for the McManus benefit match on Saturday at Otahuhu, provision being made for the transport of the Marist Senior and B representative teams.

The_ chairman reported that the special committee investigating the proposed change in senior grade control had passed a resolution this week affirming the present constitutional representation as suitable for adoption for the first year of the'new regime under which the senior teams would be reduced to six, with equivalent reserve teams. The committee had not reached finality as to the method of eliminating present senior teams, and various clubs would be consulted in the matter. Permission was granted the Mount Albert Senior B team to travel to Huntly on the 27th inst.

Mr. T. Gregory brought up the question of the need for more uniformity in the play-the-ball rule, and it was resolved to draw the attention of the official to control this week's principal fixture. It /was pointed out that Saturday being Charity Day, the "free list" would be absolutely suspended.
