HORSES AT TAKANINI.

HAVASPOT GOING NICELY.' E. POPE'S JUVENILES. PRINCE OF ORANGE WELL..

C. Morse has a recent addition to his team in the shape of a Prince Willonyx three-year-old gelding out of a. Poly-dariion-Slipstitcli mare. Morse will be some time building him up before he puts him into work. .-. _? "''■'■ <-\ Havaspot has been going very pleasingly in his work, and' on. several occasions this last week hie-pilot has .had something to do ..to restrain him. from doing his best. The Tippler gelding is, rapidly coming right, and it is not. going to be a very great length oi time before he will again sport silk.: Treasury is also on the upgrade, but is yet a fair way from being at his best. Ti Tree is also going nicely, but is not yet at her best. Prince Humphrey has.been allotted light tasks only, but his condition can be regarded as fairly good. Refresher is looking a great deal better, and it is expected that the Tea Tray—Hula Girl gelding will have his first start this season at Ellerslie next month. For the work he has been' .doing . Smithfield is certainly looking well.. It was surprising to see that he was withdrawn from his Avondale engagements, but there is a chance of his being produced on the second day. St. Ames will be a contestant, in the hurdles on the second day if all goes well in the interim. Should,he face the .I starter P. Mellroy will be his pilot. Little Gift and Shine On are getting in some useful pacework in preparation for the Tasman trip. They are due to leave on Friday. Bugle Call, who developed a cold a week orysol back, is recovering, and is expected to be on the scene again after the Avondale meeting! '■':■, . Another juvenile that has contracted a cold is Brazanna by Brazier—Manna. This filly has been off the scene for a couple of weeks, but is. recovering from the ailment rapidly. Her stable mate, Amber Link, is making good progress in .her work, and.her condition can be regarded as very satisfactory. ; . Magic Mint," by Catmint—Sycorax, is not making a great deal of headway, but his condition nevertheless is good. This , fellow is very small, which is certainly : not an advantage. . .'.' ' •":', Tamarado was seen in the paddock ,' yesterday but appears very' sore... Her. absence'from the Maiden Plate field is now certain. ,;•'■■'' . ''.'..:.. Royal Sui'vey was allowed to, forego 'his Avondale engagements, but is being kept going with a view to the Ellerslie meetingnext month. .' '~-':. .'■ ■-. . Riding engagements announced for Avondale are:—D. G. Farrell, Gay Cavalier, and King's Speech; H. Goldfinch, Rosshire, Prince of Orange, BpsericV Paddon, and Awarere. ~.,.-'-■■■ The Maiden Plate at Avondale on Saturday has useful ■ candidates ; from " this district, namely, Dominican, Rosshire and Gay Cavalier. Dominican gave i a very promising display in his first'out- ■ ing when he beat all but Pennyplain in the Ladies' Bracelet at the "Pakuranga meeting and has done well since then, but his chance is much as that of Rosshire. This fellow has done so well that it would come as a disappointment to many of his admirers if he failed to show up. Besides track ■work he has Trentham, form to recommend him, and as conditions on ( those occasions were similar to what we are likely to see oh >Saturday, it, points,to him having a good chance. Gay will only, bet haying a pipe 'opener as it is his first start in'public. Prince of Orange is now practically certain to take his place in the Henderson Handicap field, in which event there are two other contestants from ttijS'.district engaged. Prince of Orange will be most sought after of the trio? and he will justify . the confidence of' his admirers on the day. His j condition, which was never better, should no doubt -be a great asset in his favour. - The same -applies to Envoy also, as he is-a ball of - muscle,'but •is not quite" up to concert pitch yet, although he is a decided possibility. Taking track work as a guide,' r there is not a great deal of hope for King's' Speech, who is'hardly the King's Speech of old. /■:./.;:
