MANUREWA TOWN BOARD.

The Manurewa Town Board met last evening, Mr. G. Gallaher presiding. Valedictory.—At the end of the meeting, which is the last to be held before the bi-annual election of members, the chairman was tendered a hearty vote of appreciation for his services on the board, during the past ten years and as chairman for the past two years. _ General regret was expressed at his decision not to seek re-election. Appreciative reference was also made to the efforts of Messrs. lx. Osborne and F. Whyte, who are not seeking re-election. . Brown's Road.—A long discussion took place on the condition of Brown's Road and the frequent necessity for patching. Mr. F. Barnard suggested the advisability of raising a loan for the purpose of reconstructing the road in permanent material. A* motion was carried in the terms of Mr. Barnard's suggestion, as a recommendation for the consideration of the incoming board. Mr. Osborne considered that a great deal of damage to the road had been caused by excessively heavy motor_ traffic, and at his suggestion it was decided to erect a signboard restricting such traffic to the limits of a fourth-class road. Speed Regulations.—Correspondence was received from the Transport Board and the Auckland Provincial Motor Bus Company in regard to tlie latter's request for peiihission to operate its buses through the town district at a speed of 25 miles per'-hour. The traffic inspector, Mr. A. Breed, recommended that the application be'granted. He pointed out that the buses would still be subject to special bylaws applying to schools, etc. The recommendation was adopted. Street Collection. —The St. John Ambulance Association was granted permission to conduct a street collection in the township on October 3. Auctions.—Thq chairman reported that he had received several complaints from local tradesmen in reference to the hiring of the Public Hall to "outside" firms tor the purpose of holding auction sales; it was asserted that the latter had had a baa effect on local trade, and_ had taken a lot of money out of the . district, xhe incoming board was recommended to revise the ball hire tariff.
