HUGHES OFFENDS.

COLLEAGUE LEAVES PARTY. (Received 1 p.m.) SYDNEY, this day. Sir. Walter M." Marks, Independent member of the Federal House of Representatives for Wcntworth, who, by voting with Mr. W. M. Hughes, helped to defeat the Bruce-Page Government, has now resigned his membership of the Australian party, which he assisted Mr. Hughes to establish. Mr. Marks says he disagrees with some points in a pamplet which Mr. Hughes has just published, notable a bitter personal attack on Sir Otto Nicmeyer, also his references to Britain and the Bank of England. Although Mr. Marks, Mr. Hughes and other members of the party had just attended a f conference the leader never saicl a word about liis intention of publishing the pamphlet. The defection of Mr. Marks leaves Mr. Hughes the sole survivor of the seven Federal members who formed the Australian party last year.
