OTAHUHU ORPHANS. Tiie final meeting' of the Otaliuhu Orphans' -Club Avas held in Kingsford Hall, where there was a great attendance of members. Bro. J. Gillies was in the chair, and among'the visitors were Bro. J. H. H. Hutchinson, Past Kangatira of the Auckland Savage Club, and President Bro. Poster, and Secretary Bro. Burroughs of the Pukekolie club. The club's orchestra played "El, Dorado," "William Tell" and "Land of Hope and Glory." Bro. Duncan Black and his son gave several vocal numbers, while Bro. J. Smithsoii and his son, Bro. Wilfred Smithson,. contributed 'songs. Bro. G. W. Vehable's solos wei'e well, received, as we're., 'also: "Mr. Howard Andrew's elocutionary items.' Bro. W. Johnson gave excellent Items on the violin and. trumpet. Secretary Bro. T. T. Garland of the Auckland Savage' .Club gave a humorous medley. Before closing the session, Bro. Gillies thanked the artists for their performances, and also Bro. Edwin Parker for his J work with the orchestra during the season. The mem- 1 bers then encircled the hall, and led by Bro. Duncan Black sang "Auld Lang Syne." ■■ 11 MUNICIPAL MUSIC. Municipal music was a feature of the week-end. On Saturday night the Municipal Choir gave an enjoyable concert at the Town Hall. There: was a moderate audience but those who were present were very appreciative. The music was of a high standard. The choir was'conducted by the City Organist, Mr. Maughan Barnett. A variety of wellknowh selections were sung, including sacred songs, folk songs and national and traditional airs, in the opening number "Fire, Eire, My Heart" by Morley, the voices blended finely. "The Nightingale" (Mendelssohn) and the Welsh air "All Thro' the Night" took the popular fancy and had to be repeated. Miss Kate Campion was the soloist. She was heard lin operatic and light numbers. At tlie { organ Mr. Barnett played a number of selections. Mr. Edgar Bandall played the organ accompaniments; and Mr. Leo Wliittaker accompanied Miss Campion. / An organ recital was given in the Town Hall yesterday afternoon by Mr. Maughan Barnett. Outstanding numbers were an organ and chimes selection "Vesper Belli" and Kubinstein's "Wedding March." In tho Town Hall in the evening the Municipal Band under the baton of Mr. Hal C. McLennan gave a concert. There was a large and appreciative audience. A cornet duet "Cheerfulness" was played by Messrs. P. Bowes and J. Davies, and a euphonium solo "Song of the Clock" by Mr. J. Purchase. In the afternoon the band played at the Zoological Park. ROXY THEATRE. . Two British talking features are at present being screened at the Boxy Theatre. They are "Elaine of Love," with Anna May TVong in the leading role, and "Song of Solio," with Carl Brisson heading tlie cast. The next change will he "Ladies of Leisure," with Barbara Stanwyk and Balph Graves. This is an excellent society drama with deep emotional appeal. It is the story of a' hero, son of a wealthy father, who meets, a gold digger, and who having detected • a noble character underneath her hardened exterior, falls madly in love with her. In the development of the plot it is shown that the hero's mother calls on the girl to induce her to give up her son. Feeling she owes this sacrifice to the man* she loves she consents and accepts an invitation of an roue for a trip to Havana. She jumps overboard on the voyage thinking-to end all, but is rescued. When she returns to consciousness she finds the hero at her side vowing never to leave her. The production is said to "bo exceptionally clear. Tho fleetest oi all creatures is the racing pigeon.
