PIGEON FLYING.

• AUCKLAND SOCIETY. The Auckland Society, continuing its oldbird programme, held a race from Te Kuiti, an airline distance of 104 miles. The birds were liberated by the stationmaster at 11.42 a.m. and the first bird homed to its loft at 1.56 p.m. The winning bird, the property of Mr. J. Herring, averaged 1390 yds per minute.
