BIRKENHEAD COUNCIL.
The Birkenhead Borough Council .met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. J. P. McPhail presiding.
Conference With Northcote.—The Northcote Borough Council wrote, stating that the council in committee did not consider there was enough data available on the subject of a new wharf in Little Shoal Bay to enable the matter to be gone into thoroughly, and was not prepared to diecues the question. It was agreeable to a , conference being held between the two boroughs on September 17 on the matter of Little Bay Reserve. The Harbour Board is to be informed of the attitude of the Birkenhead Council about the wharf proposal.
Telephone Cable.—The Post and Telegraph Department stated that as requested by the Birkenhead Council it would lay the telephone cable down in the footpath instead of the roadway in Hauraki Road.
. Cancer Fund. —Information was received from the Municipal Association of New Zealand that application had been made for legislation validating grants made to the Cancer Campaign Funds by local authorities. Cabinet had agreed to include the necessary validating clauees in the Finance Bill.
